FAQ

What are flower remedies?

Flower remedies, also called flower essences, are herbal infusions, made from the flowering part of wild plants, bushes or trees, which address emotional and mental aspects of wellness. This method of treatment was discovered in the 1930's by Dr. Edward Bach, a renowned British physician and bacteriologist. Not to be confused with aromatherapy or essential oils, flower remedies are scentless and are taken internally in the form of liquid drops under the tongue.

How do I take them and how often?

The standard dose is four drops, four times a day, under the tongue. Regular use of the flower remedies builds the strength of their action. Therefore, potency is increased not by taking more drops at one time, but by using them on a frequent, consistent basis. The remedies should be taken four times daily, although this may need to be increased in acute situations to once every hour, or even more often. (Rescue Remedy may be used every ten minutes).

How long will it take to see results?

Unlike drugs or herbs you take only when the problem occurs, the effects of flower remedies are cumulative. Flower remedies must be taken regularly to feel the benefits. Changes are usually noticed around the third or fourth week. (Rescue Remedy is the exception and is very fast acting).

Can I take more than one of your formulas at a time?

I don't recommend taking more than one formula at a time, as it lessens their effectiveness, but it is fine to change formulas and then go back to your regular one, i.e. if you are taking Wallflower but you have a lot of work coming up and need some motivation, stop taking the Wallflower and take My Personal Assistant. Once your stress has lessened you can then go back to taking your Wallflower. The benefits obtained from your normal formula will not be lost if you switch temporarily. (Rescue Remedy is the exception to this rule and may be taken alongside your normal formula).

How long should I stay on the same formula?

As long as you are noticing its benefits. Some people may work through certain issues more quickly than others. (Usually, the longer one has had a problem, the longer it takes to heal). I recommend at least one month to see change. I have seen in practice that my clients who stay on a well chosen formula for two to three months have lasting benefits.

Are flower remedies addictive? Do they have side effects?

Flower remedies are safe, non-addictive and have no side effects. Their gentleness makes them suitable for children and pets. (Drops can be added to a baby's bottle or put in a pet's water dish).

The wonderful thing about flower remedies is that you are not meant to stay on them for a lifetime or become dependent on them, nor do you backslide or lose the progress you have made once you discontinue taking them. Once you have made improvement there is usually lasting change.

I accidentally took more than four drops. Can I overdose on flower remedies?

No, you can't overdose. Taking more than four drops will cause no harm and still only counts as one dose.

Will flower remedies interfere with my medication, or will my medication interfere with the effects of the remedies?

They do not interfere with medications and are compatible with other healing modalities. Medication will not interfere with their action. Flower remedies are not meant to replace medications, so please consult your physician if you have any questions regarding this matter.

Allergies to pollens/trees:

Flower remedies are safe for allergy sufferers. Because they are so dilute, they are considered vibrational medicine, containing only trace amounts of the original plant material.

What is the source of your flower remedies?

All of the flower remedies I use are made by Healing Herbs in England. I have found them to be more effective than the leading brand found in most health food stores. They follow Dr. Bach's method of preparation to the letter, unlike some brands that uses homeopathic methods of preparation. They are organic, biodynamic, and wild-harvested in the English countryside, then preserved in organic brandy.

I can't tolerate alcohol. Do you offer an alternative?

Many recovering alcoholics and alcohol-sensitive persons have benefited greatly from the use of flower remedies. There is only a small amount of brandy (about 1 tablespoon) added to the 1 oz. dosage bottles. The rest is spring water and remedies. This makes it very dilute, as you will only be taking four droplets of this mixture, but if further dilution is required, you may put four drops from the dosage bottle into a small glass of spring water and sip from that four times a day. If you cannot tolerate alcohol in any form, I offer all of my formulas with apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerine. Please specify in the order notes which one you would prefer.

Care/Storage of bottles:

Please be sure when taking your drops to avoid touching the glass dropper to your mouth as it should be kept clean. If this should occur, just rinse it off with clean water.

Bottles not being used should be stored upright, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. The bottle you are using regularly will be fine if not stored upright.
